We explored how intermittent hypoxia, linked to sleep apnea, affects lung health by increasing oxidative stress and inflammation. In a study involving 32 mice, we compared various treatments, including L-glutathione and infliximab, against a control group.
Our findings revealed that while intermittent hypoxia elevated harmful markers in the lungs, both L-glutathione and infliximab showed potential in minimizing these adverse effects. However, it’s important to note that more research is needed to fully understand the benefits of L-glutathione on lung function in the context of sleep apnea.

We examined how glutathione influences patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and metabolic syndrome. In a study involving 159 patients with OSA, we compared them to another group focused solely on metabolic syndrome and a control group.
After treatment, we noticed significant improvements in oxidative stress markers. Specifically, levels of harmful substances decreased while beneficial factors increased in the OSA group receiving glutathione treatment.
While glutathione shows promise in reducing oxidative stress and improving metabolic factors, its direct impact on sleep apnea symptoms was not directly addressed in this study.
